1905      Incorporation
The Lion Match Company Limited forms as a result of the amalgamation of the eight match businesses in existence in South Africa.
     
1926   Stock Exchange Listing
The Company’s ordinary shares in issue are quoted on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange effective from 20 December 1926.
     
1955   Forestry Operations
The purchase of timber plantations leads to the establishment of forestry operations within the Lights Division.
     
1963   Interpak Holdings
Lion Match diversifies into the printing and packaging industry with the acquisition of the major shareholding in Interpak Holdings (Pty) Limited.
     
1970   Rosslyn Match Factory
Acquisition of The National Match Company Limited leads to closure of two plants and their replacement with the largest match factory in Africa in Rosslyn near Pretoria.
     
1977   Wilkinson Sword
Group diversifies into the shaving, home and garden business with the acquisition of Wilkinson Sword (SA) (Pty) Limited.
     
1970   National Razor Blade
Shaving products factory established at the Cape Town site.
     
1981   Electrical Appliances
Lion Match acquires sole agency to market and sell a number of leading brands of electrical appliances.
     
1981   Investment in Lion Appliances
Acquisition of Pineware Manufacturing (Pty) Limited provides access to the local manufacture of electrical appliances at Pineware’s New Germany factory. Appliance operations re-organise to form Lion Appliance Enterprises (Pty) Limited.
     
1987   SAB Control
Control of the company passes from foreign shareholders to The South African Breweries Limited on 1 July 1987.
     
1992   Formation of Amalgamated Appliances
The assets of Lion Appliance Enterprises and those of the Haz and Tedelex Housewares divisions rationalise to form a new company, Amalgamated Appliances (Pty) Limited, controlled equally by Lion Match and Tedelex Limited.
     
1993   Disposal of Interpak and Amalgamated Appliances
Lion Match disposes of its interests in Interpak Holdings (Pty) Limited and Amalgamated Appliances (Pty) Limited with effect from 1 November 1993.
     
1998   Discontinuance of Wilkinson Sword Trade Mark Agreement
The discontinuation of the manufacture and marketing of the Wilkinson Sword brand shaving products and subsequent launch of the Lion Match shaving brand Duel.
     
1998   FASIC Control
Control of the company passes form the South African Breweries Limited to a voting pool controlled by FASIC Investment Corporation Limited.
     
2000   The Company is delisted
The Company is delisted, 15 December 2000, and all assets transferred to Fasic Africa (Pty) Ltd. with Nedbank being the majority shareholder.
     
2005   Fasic becomes Lion Match
Fasic Africa (Pty) Ltd changes its name to The Lion Match Company (Pty) Ltd.
     
2007   Nedbank sells its shares
Nedbank Ltd sells its shares to Fasic Investment Company Ltd with effect from 4 December 2007.
